In Climate justice as a thematic area, we are focused on addressing the unequal impacts of climate
change on vulnerable populations and advocating for equitable solutions. We recognized that climate
change disproportionately affects marginalized communities, including indigenous people, low-income
individuals, women, and people of color.
The concept of climate justice acknowledges that those who contribute the least to greenhouse gas
emissions often bear the greatest burden of the consequences, such as extreme weather events, food
and water scarcity, displacement, and health issues. It emphasizes the importance of ensuring fair
distribution of resources, promoting human rights, and addressing systemic inequalities in the context of
climate change.
Climate justice also encompasses the idea of intergenerational equity, emphasizing the responsibilities
of current generations in taking action to mitigate climate change and protecting the rights and wellbeing of future generations. It calls for the recognition of climate-related losses and damages, seeking
accountability from those who are primarily responsible for causing climate change and supporting
affected communities in coping with its impacts.
Within this thematic area, we have combined efforts that include advocating for climate policies that
prioritize the needs and interests of vulnerable communities, promoting sustainable and just transition
towards renewable energy, supporting community-led adaptation and resilience-building initiatives, and
fostering awareness and education about climate justice issues.
Overall, Sustainable Jamii seeks to address the social, economic, and environmental injustices resulting
from climate change, aiming for a more equitable and sustainable future for all.
